About this experience
Hotel or Airport Pickup
Your private guide and driver will meet you at your Addis Ababa hotel, Bole International Airport or another agreed location.
After a brief introduction to the day’s program, begin exploring Ethiopia’s historic and culturally diverse capital.
Mount Entoto and Panoramic Addis Ababa Views
Drive north toward Mount Entoto, one of the highest points overlooking Addis Ababa. From the mountain, enjoy panoramic views across the capital while your guide introduces the city’s geography, historical development and rapid urban growth.
Entoto is closely associated with Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taytu Betul. They established their imperial residence in this area before Addis Ababa developed on the land below the mountain.
Depending on the selected itinerary and available time, explore the surroundings and enjoy photography stops overlooking the city.
National Museum of Ethiopia and Lucy
Continue to the National Museum of Ethiopia, one of the country’s most important museums. Its collections introduce visitors to Ethiopia’s archaeology, ancient civilizations, historical kingdoms, imperial heritage and artistic traditions.
The museum’s best-known exhibit is the fossil commonly called “Lucy” and known locally as Dinknesh, meaning “You are wonderful” in Amharic. Discovered in Ethiopia’s Afar Region in 1974, the approximately 3.2-million-year-old Australopithecus afarensis specimen is one of the world’s most celebrated early hominin discoveries.
Your guide will explain the significance of Lucy and introduce other notable archaeological and historical displays within the museum.
Ethnological Museum of Ethiopia
Visit the Ethnological Museum, located inside the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie on the main campus of Addis Ababa University.
The museum presents Ethiopia’s remarkable cultural diversity through traditional clothing, musical instruments, household objects, religious art and ceremonial items representing communities from different regions of the country.
You may also visit preserved rooms associated with Emperor Haile Selassie, providing another perspective on Ethiopia’s modern imperial history.
The museum offers an excellent introduction to the people, customs and traditions travelers may encounter while exploring Ethiopia.
Traditional Ethiopian Lunch
Enjoy lunch at a selected local restaurant and sample Ethiopian dishes served with injera. Vegetarian options can be arranged when requested in advance.
Your guide can introduce the different dishes and explain Ethiopia’s communal dining traditions.
Guided Visit to Addis Merkato
Continue to Addis Merkato, widely regarded as one of Africa’s largest and busiest commercial districts.
The market contains numerous sections specializing in coffee, spices, grains, textiles, traditional clothing, baskets, household goods, jewelry, recycled materials and many other products.
Walk through carefully selected areas with your guide, who will help you navigate the busy environment and explain the products, trading customs and importance of the market to the city’s economy.
The exact sections visited may vary according to traffic, market conditions, personal interests and safety considerations.
Traditional Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony
Complete your cultural experience with a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. Coffee plays an important role in Ethiopian hospitality, family life and social relationships.
Observe the preparation process as the beans are roasted, ground and brewed in a traditional clay coffee pot known as a jebena. The coffee is generally served in small cups and may be accompanied by popcorn or another light snack.
The ceremony provides time to relax, speak with your guide and reflect on the day’s experiences.

At the end of the tour, transfer to your Addis Ababa hotel or Bole International Airport.
If you have an evening or late-night departure, the schedule can be adjusted around your flight time.
